In a world, majorly the stigma or complete negligence towards
menstrual hygiene, here comes a commendable leap by National
Service Scheme, HBTU Kanpur, empowering women and their health
on issues related to menstrual hygiene. The Sanitary Pad
Distribution Program is a step initiated by NSS breaking all
barriers of silence relating to menstruation and access to
hygienic sanitary products for needy women.
Menstrual health is one of the most crucial dimensions of
health in women but highly overlooked. Inability to get and
afford sanitary products forces women, especially low-income
settings women, to choose unhygienic options that result in
serious health issues. Stigma attached to menstruation
prevents the discussion and keeps women uninformed about
crucial hygiene practices.
Knowing the issues, NSS HBTU under the leadership of Aryan
Tiwari, started the Sanitary Pad Distribution program for
distributing sanitary pads free of cost to women in rural and
impoverished areas. Besides distribution, the program included
an awareness session so that women could be made aware of the
right way of doing menstrual hygiene, dispel all the myths
associated with it, and speak out freely. This program has
been readily welcomed by the community. Empowerment and
confidence have been born to women and girls who could never
access proper menstrual hygiene products. Social causes have
been motivating volunteers and students to participate, for it
brings a sense of responsibility towards society.
NSS HBTU aims to expand this initiative by collaborating with
NGOs, local authorities, and corporate sponsors to reach a
larger audience. Future plans include installing sanitary pad
vending machines in public places, organizing health camps,
and introducing sustainable menstrual products like menstrual
cups and biodegradable pads. Sanitary Pad Distribution is not
merely distribution; it's dignity, health, and empowerment. By
overcoming the obstacles of menstrual hygiene, NSS HBTU is
giving huge emphasis to women, paving the path towards a
healthier and more knowledgeable society. Let's join hands to
support this noble cause and create a world where menstruation
is no longer a taboo but a topic of awareness and care.
"By providing education and access to sanitary pads, we are empowering our community to embrace menstrual health with confidence. Together, we are creating a healthier and more informed society."
