Respecting and caring for the elderly is a reflection of our
cultural values. This simple yet profound idea reminds us of
the deep respect we owe to our elders. With this belief in
mind, we launched a heartfelt initiative called "YATRA" under
the leadership of Aryan Tiwari, Student Secretary, NSS, where
students visit old age homes to interact with the elderly.
Through this programme, NSS volunteers spend time with the
elderly, offering companionship and emotional support, while
also gaining insight into their life stories and struggles.
The primary aim of "YATRA" is to combat the feelings of
loneliness and isolation that many elderly individuals face.
By simply being there, students help brighten their day,
sharing meaningful conversations and engaging in activities
like singing, playing games, or just offering a listening ear.
These moments bring joy and a sense of worth to the elderly,
reminding them that they are still valued members of society,
deserving of attention and care.
Through this initiative, NSS teaches students the true essence
of compassion and social responsibility. "YATRA" isn't just
about helping the elderly—it's a life-changing experience for
the students as well, helping them realize the importance of
empathy, gratitude, and respect for all generations.
This initiative fostered meaningful bonds, bridging the
generation gap and spreading joy across all ages. It was a day
that highlighted the importance of supporting and honoring our
elderly, leaving a lasting impact on both the visitors and
residents alike.
"The NSS HBTU visit to the old age home was a touching experience. Bringing joy through art, music, and conversations, we witnessed the power of compassion in brightening their lives."
