"A nation that destroys its soil destroys itself . Forests are
lungs of our land, purifying the air and giving fresh strength
to our people"- by Franklin D. Roosevelt emphasises on the
vital role of nature, particularly forests and healthy soils,
sustaining life and well-being of a nation. The message is
clear : protecting and nurturing nature is essential for our
health, strength and future. Recognising this, the national
service scheme under the leadership of Student Secretary,
Aryan Tiwari actively organizes plantation drives to protect
and rejuvenate the environment. These initiatives embody the
essence of the quote by promoting afforestation, improving air
quality and raising awareness about the importance of trees in
sustaining life.
On 13 August 2024, the HBTU community came
together under the banner of Azadi ka Amrit mahotsav to
contribute to a sustainable future by organising a successful
plantation drive at West campus . In the commemoration of 75
years of independence, students, volunteers and faculty
members, collectively contributed to environmental
conservation by planting saplings as a gesture of giving back
to nature.
NSS organizes plantation drives to promote
environmental sustainability and raise awareness about climate
change. These initiatives help combat air pollution, support
biodiversity, prevent soil erosion, and mitigate climate
change by increasing green cover. In addition to environmental
benefits, the drives foster community involvement and
environmental responsibility among youth, contributing to
long-term ecological and social well-being.
The NSS motto,
"Not Me, But You," reflects the spirit of plantation drives,
where the focus is on collective well-being rather than
individual gain. These drives promote environmental
sustainability and community responsibility, with volunteers
selflessly working for the greater good—protecting the planet
for future generations. A special mention for Aryan Tiwari and
team for hosting these drives and making it a massive success.
"Seeing so many hands come together to plant trees fills me with hope and pride. Let's continue this mission to create a healthier environment for future generations!"
